How a whole city plans to close the loop on waste
Imagine a local hub where you can convert your old plastic into a new cell phone case, see soldier flies convert organic waste to larvae for livestock feed or watch demonstrations of sustainable innovations. Then you might enjoy a snack in a zero-waste restaurant or try out a craft beer.
This is just a taste of activities planned for an ambitious Innovation Barn in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s being converted from an old horse barn as part of a bold move to create a circular economy across the entire city, generate hundreds of jobs and net an estimated $2.3 billion in profits by 2040.
